In the lead up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, streetfootballworld and joined forces to spread the model of ‘community-driven’ football pitches. This ongoing collaboration sees streetfootballworld identify communities in need of safer playing spaces and then orchestrate the construction of pitches in these areas. The goal is simple: empowering local actors to plan, build and manage their own football facilities.

By empowering a community to build a pitch, the local population becomes engaged and invested in the project. This makes the sight of young people using the finished product all the more rewarding. But it is not just locals who benefitting from streetfootballworld and’s joint initiative. By supporting community-driven pitch construction, corporate sponsors such as Under Armour have created unique engagement and learning opportunities for many of their employees.
