Soccer Without Borders uses football as a vehicle for positive social change, providing under-served youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion, and personal success. The organisation’s programmes in the USA encourage the social integration of refugee, asylee and immigrant children. Soccer Without Borders also has an international presence, with work based in Nicaragua, Uganda, where the focus is to strengthen the position of women within society. All programmes consist of five elements: football – play and instruction; off-field education; civic engagement; cultural exchange; and team-building activities.

“When I play soccer, it feels like a second home, they (my teammates) feel like my real family, and we respect each other. They’re really nice, I can just talk to them about everything.”
