Nov 292011 | Support streetfootballworld’s Youth Exchange in East Africa!

streetfootballworld has launched a special end-of-year fundraiser to support our new youth exchange programme for the East African regional network, and every contribution makes a difference.

Every day, young people in East Africa are faced with social problems such as HIV/AIDS, unemployment, gender discrimination and violent conflict. The universal passion for football can bring them into social development programmes, where they can learn valuable life skills and shape the future of their communities.

Working together
The nine streetfootballworld network members in East Africa, spanning across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan, have come together to form a regional network. By working together on a shared development strategy, the network can achieve far more than any one organisation could do alone.

The Youth Exchange is just one way in which streetfootballworld is supporting the regional network. The programme will bring two young people who have demonstrated leadership in their communities to another network member organisation for a month. As well as working on everyday activities, the young leaders will also work with their hosts to develop a special project such as a capacity development workshop or volunteer training.

Sustainable development
Peer-to-peer exchanges not only benefit the individual participants themselves, but also provide organisations with an opportunity to share expertise and learn from each other’s experiences. By giving young leaders the chance to take on responsibility, the youth exchange programme is setting the foundations for sustainable social development.
