streetfootballworld network member Soccer in the Streets was honoured by the City of Atlanta on February 15th, when the Atlanta City Council issued a proclamation recognising the homegrown organisation’s local, national and international work. Founded in 1989, Soccer in the Streets has evolved over the last 20 years from an outreach programme targeting low-income, minority children to a youth development organisation that uses football to empower young people who lack employment opportunities. Each week, over 300 young people participate in Soccer in the Streets activities in the Atlanta area alone. Affiliates in over a dozen other cities also promote Soccer in the Streets programmes. Said Jill Robbins, Executive Director of Soccer in the Streets, “It's gratifying to have the City of Atlanta recognise the asset it has in Soccer in the Streets, and our 20-plus year legacy. I envision a day when a Soccer in the Streets kid is one of those city councilpersons or the mayor of this great city. Our job today is helping the kids to see that same vision.” |
Congratulations to Soccer in the Streets!
