Dec 12009 | MYSA juala football sells for $205,000

What’s more valuable than signed items from some of the world’s top athletes?
A juala ball from streetfootballworld network member Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA).

The Made-in-Mathare ball—the same one used by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon during his keynote address at the opening of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Congress last month—sold for $205,000 at a UN-backed gala auction in Dubai.

The juala ball in question has a very special history: Peter Ndolo of MYSA made it and presented it to Wilfried Lemke, the UN Special Advisor on Sport for Development and Peace, who in turn gave the ball to the UN Secretary General. After his IOC address, Ban Ki-Moon presented it to IOC president Jacques Rogge, who then gave it to UN Messenger of Peace HRH Princess Haya. Her husband, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai put the juala ball up for sale in the auction.

This ball went on to sell for $205,000!
