Feb 32009 | Grassroot Soccer shares its Skillz

streetfootballworld network member Grassroot Soccer has launched its first edition of Skillz magazine, a quarterly educational supplement in South Africa’s Sunday Times.

Skillz magazine taps into the excitement surrounding the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ to engage young South Africans in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Featuring football stars from South Africa and the world, the magazine draws on football to teach young people life lessons and encourage them to make a positive difference in their communities.

3 Skillz to Win
Each of the four 2009 editions will focus on a different theme related to life skills and the prevention of HIV/AIDS. The magazine teaches young people to follow the 3 Skillz to Win in both football and life: know the game, build your team, and make your move.

A production of Football for an HIV Free Generation (F4), Skillz will be distributed through the Sunday Times, the Sowetan, and will also be provided to 2300 schools throughout South Africa.

For all those who may have missed the February 1, 2009 Sunday Times, Skillz – Join the Team is available here.

Grassroot Soccer
Grassroot Soccer (GRS) integrates the cross-cultural appeal of soccer with evidence-based HIV prevention and life skills programmes that arm African youth with the knowledge, skills, and support to live HIV-free. Since 2003, over 270,000 young people in 16 countries have received comprehensive HIV prevention education through programmes linked to GRS. By bringing the model to scale through innovative and sustainable partnerships, GRS aims to educate over 1 million young people by World Cup 2010.
