Although the Football for Hope Festival 2010 came to a close in July, the remaining members of the Festival Organising Team still had one more very important task.
As part of the World Cup legacy, FIFA decide to donate most of the IT assets that were brought into South Africa specifically for the event. The Festival Organising Team was requested to identify organisations from host township Alexandra that could benefit from the items.
Festival 2010 lives on in Alex
A whopping total of 70 laptops, 68 televisions, 24 blue ray DVD players, 20 computer monitors, 9 3G routers, 7 high quality projectors, 5 printers and 3 uninterrupted power supplies were donated to 24 organisations across Alexandra. The organisations were mostly chosen due to their contributions toward making the festival the great success that it was. Other organisations, such as orphanages and nursing homes, were also selected as beneficiaries.
All of streetfootballworld’s South African network members as well as all Football for Hope Centre Hosts will also receive similar items in the weeks to come.
The Festival Organising Team joins FIFA in hoping that the donations will improve the quality of work, education and life of each beneficiary.
