For the fourth consecutive year, the Chilean government has recognised social projects which contribute to the country’s development as it approaches the commemoration of its 200th anniversary as an independent republic. The selection process involved careful consideration of each project, the work and social impact they have achieved, and how they actively contribute to spreading the values the country aims to promote. One of the projects which received the award was streetfootballworld network member Gente Viva, with its project “Red Chilena de Fútbol Callejero-Chigol” (Chilean Chigol Street Football Network). In a ceremony held in the Moneda Palace, President Michelle Bachelet presented the award to the executive director of the Chilean Network, Pablo Hewstone. The award recognises the values promoted by the Chilean government in the 2010 celebrations of Chile’s 200 years of national independence, including working towards a diverse and integrated country. The seal, which has been awarded annually since 2004, acknowledges initiatives of both the civil and private sector to have a positive impact on the country’s identity, democratic development, and social integration. Discussing the subject, the President highlighted that the prizewinning projects “are united in their efforts to construct a better country, a country which is better for everybody; a country which is more just, more integrated, and which strives to develop in the most well-balanced, harmonious and supportive way for everyone.” The Chigol delegation, which consists of the executive director as well as a group of young people, received an award designed by the distinguished national sculptor, Iván Daiber.
