Congratulations to streetfootballworld network members Colombianitos and Spirit of Soccer for winning awards at the inaugural Beyond Sport Summit in London, England.
After an eventful three days, the Beyond Sports Summit ended on Thursday, July 9th. The summit hosted a range of events and panel discussions focusing on Development through Sport.
As part of the summit, an awards ceremony was held to celebrate and support individuals and groups that seek to drive change through sport.
Rising to the top
Nominated for its educational programme ‘Goals for a better life’, Colombianitos was able to beat out other recognised organisations and win the UNICEF Children’s Rights Award. The aim of ‘Goals for a better life’ is to reduce crime and drug addiction, while promoting education through the use of football and other activities.
Spirit of Soccer was hand-picked by a judging panel of Beyond Sport ambassadors for the Most Courageous Use of Sport Award for its work in educating communities on the dangers of landmines left over from prior conflicts.
The final round
In total, eight streetfootballworld network members were nominated for various awards: The Kids League and Play Soccer were in the running for the UNICEF Children’s Rights Award,and Grassroot Soccer and Moving the Goalposts were finalists in the Best Project for Health Award. The Peres Center for Peace was nominated for the Sport for Peace Award and Street League was listed as a finalist for the London Legacy Award.

Managing Director Jürgen Griesbeck was at the summit to give his support to the streetfootballworld networks members as well as participate in a panel discussion. Lending his expertise, Jürgen contributed to a facilitated session entitled “ A Rewarding Collision – Sport, business and development”.
