On October 27th, the streetfootballworld network member Breakthrough
Sports Academy (BSA) launched the Zambia Street Football Network
(ZSFN). To kick-off the ZSFN, BSA and it partners Bauleni United Sports
Academy, Kalim Sports Council and Grassroot Soccer organised a one day
football tournament. The tournament involved 14 teams with a total of
over 150 children participating.
In
2006, BSA came up with the idea of establishing the Zambia Street
Football Network for community based organisations working in the field
of Development through Football at grassroots level. The general goal
of the national network is to share experiences and lessons learnt in
the field of Development through Football. It is hoped that they can
better organise exciting sports and recreational activities for
children and youth through sustainable networking. The major focus of
the network is sharing different experiences and best practices as well
as working together on joint projects.
As part of the launch of the ZSFN, BSA organised a 7-a-side
football tournament for under–16 girls and under–17 boys, which took
place on October 27th 2007.
The Zambia Street Football Network is a project supported in the
framework of the Football for Hope Movement. The Football for Hope
Movement is the key element of the strategic alliance between FIFA and
streetfootballworld that has recently been enacted. The objective is to
establish a quality seal for sustainable social and human development
programmes focusing on football as the central tool in areas of health
promotion, peace building, anti-discrimination and social integration,
children’s rights and education as well as environment and therewith
support best practices in the field. streetfootballworld represents an
international network and centre of competence that interconnects and
strengthens long-term football based social and development
organizations, initiative and projects.
BSA is an Implementing Partner of the Football for Hope Movement as well as a member of the streetfootballworld network.
During the tournament, children from different communities
participated and showcased their skills. Grassroot Soccer (GRS) was
also present to demonstrate the GRS curriculum. In the boys’ final, BSA
was beaten by Kalim Sports Council 3 - 4 on penalties. In the girls’
final, Bauleni United Sports Academy were the eventual winners after
overcoming Kalusha Bwalya Foundation on penalties.
