After a week of discussions and dancing, forums and football, touring and talking, two winners lifted locally made trophies into the hot Cape Town air. Of the eight youth delegations from South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia and Brazil, streetfootballworld network member Altus Sport from South Africa emerged as the champions of the football festival that marked the opening of the very first Football for Hope Centre. An equally significant win went to the joint delegation from Brazil, made up of streetfootballworld network member organisations Formação and Eprocad, who were voted by their peers as the fairest team. The football festival was a week-long celebration consisting of workshops, cultural exchange, discussions, and, of course, football, held as part of the Football for Hope Centre Kick-Off in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. The
first of twenty to be built across Africa as part of a joint initiative between
streetfootballworld and FIFA, the Football for Hope Centre in Khayelitsha
offers public health services, education and football to the local community.
It is run by streetfootballworld network member Grassroot Soccer. Find out more about the Centre Kick-Off in Cape Town, South Africa.
