In an environment where large parts of the population have no access to the formal labour market, the education system or health services, Club Deportivo y Cultural Bongiovanni empowers young people to become active, committed members of society who can drive sustainable social change and are examples for following generations. It also enables community members to recover neighbourhood identity.

Football is used to engage young people in non-formal education and leadership skills training. Bongiovanni uses Fútbol Callejero (Street Football) and is part of the Liga FOS (Football for Social Opportunity League), a local football league that offers participants educational activities and capacity building opportunities.
