South American Football for Hope Festival Chile 2008

The best of the world’s young female talent is heading to Chile for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup but for many young people across South America, football goes far beyond what happens on the pitch. It’s a way of gaining confidence and learning important life skills that will give them a better chance to succeed in life.

Showcasing the power of football for social development
The South American Football for Hope Festival Chile 2008, which takes place in Santiago de Chile from December 1 to 7, will bring together projects that use football as a tool for social development from all over the region, many of them streetfootballworld Network Members.

Over 200 young people, both boys and girls, aged between 15 and 21 will take part in the festival, which will feature delegations from Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Colombia, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay and Argentina as well as special delegations from Costa Rica and South Africa.

The aim is to share experiences of what can be achieved through football and foster intercultural dialogue. As well as an exciting street-football tournament, the festival will feature various artistic and cultural workshops.
