On July 12th, a reading of the play BASSAM will be hosted at the Theatro Technis Centre in London, England to benefit Bassam Aramin of streetfootballworld network member Al Quds Association for Democracy and Dialogue (AFDD). The play reveals the intriguing story of Bassam’s dedicated work for peace and justice for Palestinian and Israeli people.

Written and directed by Idan Meir, the play retells the struggle and redemption of this Palestinian peace activist. Based on the story of the murder of Bassam’s nine-year-old daughter, BASSAM reveals how this horrific event strengthened his vision of a peaceful solution.

A remarkable story
Born in 1967, Bassam Aramin’s life has been intertwined with the Israel-Palestine conflict. Involved in the Palestinian resistance as a teenager, he spent seven years in an Israeli prison. Released in 1992, Bassam realised that the conflict could not be solved by violence and embarked upon an ambitious project of dialogue and direct involvement with key players in Israel and Palestine.

Since 1992, he has campaigned for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. Bassam is the president of Al-Quds Association for Democracy and Dialogue, which coordinates the “Twinned Peace Football Schools” programme with fellow streetfootballworld network member Peres Centre for Peace.

Another step towards peace
The reading of BASSAM will also include a request for funds to support Bassam Aramin for an MA in Peace Studies at the University of Bradford in England. By studying Peace Studies at this world-renowned department, Bassam will emerge as a recognised professional in the area of conflict resolution. Furthermore, this opportunity will enable Bassam to contribute to high-level decision-making organisations in the Middle East.
