Mine Risk Education and Football Tournament for International Mine Action Day

streetfootballworld network member Spirit of Soccer has partnered with FIFA, Generation for Peace, the Jordanian National Committee for Demining and Rehabilitation (NCDR) and the Jordanian Soccer Federation to host a festival for children, coaches, and mentors from communities in Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, and Lebanon affected by mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW). During the first part of the festival, 30 young people from some of the most heavily mined places in the world will receive a five-day coaching and Mine Risk Education (MRE) course. Each delegation must send at least one female candidate. The educational component will be followed by a two-day football festival for 64 female and male players under the supervision of the newly educated coaches. International Mine Action Day The event will be attended by diplomats, members of Jordan’s royal family, and other special guests. After the festival, the young participants will return to their local communities as coaches to organise football tournaments and to spread the MRE message, with continuous support in the form of expertise and material from Spirit of Soccer.
