The 2012 Laureus World Sports Awards will take place in London, celebrating both athletic achievement and social commitment in sport.
Taking place on the 6th of February, the prestigious awards will be presented to athletes who have achieved outstanding success in their field over the past year. Categories include Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Team of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year and Sportsperson with a Disability of the Year.
As well as celebrating professional athletes, the Founding Patrons and the Laureus Academy select the winner of the Sport for Good Award in honour of individuals and organisations who have made a significant contribution to society through sport.
Previous winners of the Sport for Good Award include streetfootballworld network member MYSA in 2004, and streetfootballworld CEO Jürgen Griesbeck in 2006. The nominations for 2012 have yet to be confirmed.
Proceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards directly benefit the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which supports community sports projects throughout the world, including several streetfootballworld network members.
