Global Peace Games for Children and Youth 2009
|
streetfootballworld network member Play Soccer will celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace on September 21 with the Global Peace Games for Children and Youth. The Global Peace Games for Children and Youth are an annual event that takes place at the grassroots level in communities around the world through the initiative of civil society, in order to show solidarity in support of peaceful solutions, nonviolence and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The Games seek to develop the leadership skills and individual responsibility of children and young people, and to help them learn how they can make the world a better place through sport and ordinary daily actions and decisions. The Games are locally planned and financed community events, and feature friendly football matches and/or other sporting events. With themes dedicated to the objectives of the United Nations, these sporting events are accompanied by educational presentations, music, art, dance and poetry. Participation in the Games is free and open to all who wish to take part. Communities, civil society organisations and governments are invited to organise and enjoy the games and events in their own countries and locations - limited only by their own local constraints of financing, organising and planning capacity.
