Youth in Action Sierra Leone (YASAL) began its operation in 2002, at the end of the civil war, to provide a suitable climate for children, young people and their communities to reflect on the causes of the war and lessons learnt. It created the first forum for reconciliation and peace building in the communities.
YASAL uses football as a non-violent approach to conflict resolution to build a youth movement that can contribute to sustainable development, justice and unity in Sierra Leone. The organisation supports women and children from disadvantaged environments with educational programmes and vocational training, helping them develop the character, confidence, and skills necessary for gainful employment.
