In a country where over one million children live on the streets, United Action for Children (UAC) uses football to get young people off the streets and into classrooms and training centres. The impetus to launch the project came from the many inter-tribal conflicts and the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Cameroon. UAC promotes conflict resolution and public awareness of HIV/AIDS and other health issues.
UAC has grown to include a number of programmes alongside its football-based activities, such as basic education and vocational training in woodwork, painting, electro-technics and computer studies. The organisation’s success is evident in the 300 participants who have left the streets and joined their peers in the classroom.
