The Community Street Soccer Program is a community initiative of The Big Issue Australia using football as a catalyst for transforming lives and providing participants with a real sense of purpose and belonging. The program involves males and females, of all ages and varying ability and fitness levels, getting together once a week, training and playing matches. Permanent pitches, playing equipment and a dedicated soccer coach are provided at each location.

The programme’s mission is to use sport as a means to promote social inclusion and personal change for homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people. The programme aims at creating healthier communities and social change for marginalised people, promoting participation, inclusiveness, commitment and team spirit. Their plan is to build a sustainable programme to engage 3,000 participants across Australia by 2010, in 30 communities.

The Big Issue successfully hosted the Homeless World Cup in 2008.
