Hundreds of Israeli & Palestinian Children Play in "Mini World Cup" in Jaffa
|
Some 350 Palestinian and Israeli children took part in the Peres Center's annual
"Mini World Cup" soccer tournament in Jaffa.
In addition to the friendly matches
between mixed teams of Israeli and Palestinian children aged 6-14, the Peres
Center's Peace Team delegation to the World Cup in South Africa - a team of
Palestinian and Israeli teenage girls and boys -- was introduced, and held an
exhibition match with the Maccabi Jaffa youth team. Guests from Israel and the Palestinian Authority, including members of the diplomatic corps, Jaffa residents and friends of the Peres Center, attended the event at the football field of the Neveh Golan community center. The day's festivities included a break-dance and graffiti art workshop and demonstration led by "Street Art Production" and concluded with a trophy ceremony at the nearby Peres Peace House. All children participating in the
Mini World Cup are either current participants or graduates of the Sport
Department's Twinned Peace Sport Schools program, which is carried out in
partnership with the Palestinian Al Quds Association for Democracy and Dialogue.
The event was generously sponsored by the Jafora Company, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, the South African Embassy and the Office of Public Diplomacy of the Embassy of the United States of America. |
