An Israeli-Palestinian, father-son football
event was held in southern Israel, with the participation of boys and their
fathers from the Palestinian town of Jericho and from the Israeli communities of
Sha'ar HaNegev and Sderot.
Based on the success of this
first-time, "pilot" father-son activity, additional such encounters are planned
for other communities in the future.
The children who took part in the
event are participants in the Peres Center's Twinned Peace Sport Schools
program, a holistic cross-border project that uses sport as a peacebuilding tool
bringing Palestinian and Israeli children together in a safe, healthy and fun
environment. An important component of the program is widening the circle of
impact by involving the children's families and communities in athletic,
educational and social activities with their counterparts on the other side of
the border.
The Jericho-Sderot-Sha'ar Hanegev Twinned Peace Sport School
in is generously supported by the Dutch Jewish Humanitarian Fund and the Eranda
Foundation.
