During October 2008, the Peres Center for Peace marked ten years of peacebuilding activities, bringing together distinguished regional and international guests to create a new agenda for peace.

 

The Sport Department hosted an esteemed plenary session on Sport and Peacebuilding in order to mark this special occasion.  This panel explored ways in which sport contributes to the social and cognitive development of children and youth, brings people together from both sides of the conflict divide and instills values of teamwork and common goals.

 

The panel was made up of distinguished guests including Joseph Blatter - President of FIFA, Ramon Calderon- President of Real Madrid F.C, Alex Gilady - Founder and President of Keshet and Senior Vice President, NBC Sport and Olympics, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE - Vice Chair, Laureus World Sport Academy and Paralympic Gold Medalist, Don King - Boxing Promotor, Jason McCartney - Former AFL player and Current AFL Youth and High Performance Coordinator, Edwin Moses - Chair, Laureus World Sport Academy and Olympic Gold Medalist and Issa Rishmawi
