The Maccabim Association is a charitable arm of the Maccabi Tel Aviv football club. It has established a nationwide network of football centres in low-income neighbourhoods that offer afterschool activity programmes for children from diverse backgrounds. The organisation’s mission is to use sport as a vehicle to educate and empower children.
The Maccabim Association involves over 4.000 children, with 55 coaches and 30 educational staff. A variety of different projects are run on an ongoing basis, including combined football-academic tutorial centres for underprivileged children in need of educational support and a unique Jewish-Arab coexistence project in one of Israel’s most sensitive regions.
