Soccer in the Streets uses football to teach disadvantaged kids in underserved communities how to make positive choices for themselves, their families and their communities. The hallmark of the programme is Positive-Choice Soccer, a weekly programme that combines football and life skills. As children progress in the programme, they are offered the opportunity to participate in traditional leagues. They are also selected to receive career training.
Young people play on mini pitches called Street-Boxes—modified football fields complete with an all-weather playing surface, permanent goals and durable plastic perimeter boards. The Street-Boxes are designed for use in urban areas where football facilities are often lacking.
