Soccer In The Streets uses football to teach disadvantaged kids in underserved communities how to make positive choices to better themselves, their families, and their communities. The hallmark of the programme is Positive-Choice Soccer, a weekly programme that combines the teaching of football and life skills. As children progress in the programme, they are offered the opportunity to participate in traditional leagues. Children are also selected to receive career training, in the fields of coaching, refereeing, management, communications, etc.
Youths play on mini pitches called “Street-Boxes”, a modified football field - roughly the size of a tennis court - complete with an all-weather playing surface, permanent goals and durable waist-high plastic perimeter boards. The “Street-Boxes” are designed for use in urban areas where soccer facilities are often lacking. Soccer in the Streets participated at the streetfootballworld festival 06 in Berlin, Germany.
