SLASC is on tour in Spain: Read more about their amazing experiences:
On Friday 14th May 2010, I arrived safely with my delegation here in Barcelona in Spain. We have now left Burgos, to Mardrid and are currently in Cadiz.
May 15th 2010, the Sierra contingent was taken to a big time community recreational centre here in Barcelona, Spain. The
center is call Tibidabu and players were expose to many games. The community of 3,000 enjoyed a 25 minutes football demonstration by the SLASC. After that, the team was taken to Camp Nou Stadium which is one of the world famous stadium. The team was introduced to many sport offices there, includes standard pitch of play, trouphys centre, Barcelona jersey shopping centre - 2 sets of Barcelona jerseys each were donated to team members of which each cost 67 Euros.
May 16th 2010, The team was taken to Villanova community near Barcelona about 100 kilometres away. There was a nations football cup for kids between the ages of 8 to 12 yearsyears. SLASC did wonderful performance in the opening ceremony of the competition through amputee football demonstration. The kids were asked to kick penalties on the amputee goal keepers and were surprised to see the performances of our goalies ´(Jabati and Julius). Another exciting moment was the Freetown famous amputee Dancer (American) who attracted thousands of spectators children, parents and participants of the day competition.
In the evening, SLASC was priveliged to watched the finals of (La Liga Competition) between Barcelona Vs Valladolid. A free tickets were donated to SLASC to watch this match at the Camp Nou Stadium here in Barcelona. The matched ended by 4 0 against Valladolid.
On May 17th 2010, SLASC visited a highly new technology of prosthetics production centre called, *Institut Desvern*. The Orthopedic technicians offered free casting services on all stumps of amputees present in the tour. The preparation of these prosthesis on in process though finnishing is expected to be done in Freetown due to the time frame in Spain. In addition, SLASC is working in partnership relations to brnging these new technololy of othopedic devices into Sierra Leone.
In the evening, the team visited a pre school and junior secondary level of six to 16 years pupils (boys and girls). Amputee sport demonstration was vividly carried out in front of 500 pupils. The children had never see someone with amputation let alone seeing an amputee playing football. It was an exciting moment which emotionally led the children to request playing against amputees for 15 minutes. After the demonstration, a meeting was held were children had opportunity to asked important questions about amputee football, cause of amputations and the challenges players are facing. A dinner was provided were both players and children interacted with one another while eating.
May 18th to 19th, the team visited Barcelona Sport University where men and women are taught to teach variuos sporting activities; Coaching ability in football, volley ball, lawn tennis, athletics, physiotherapy and many more. The college had on roll 700 students learning various skills for community sport development nationally and abroad. A sport demonstration before students and lecturers left many with incredible moments.
In the evening, the team attended a high level degation meeting of Government representative, Prosthesis and orthosis rep, and Amputee Association of Barcelona. It is promised at that meeting that Spain Government shall be appraoch for possible partnership between Spain and Sierra Leone Government either for prosthesis manufacture or sport development in Sierra Leone. Fingers across with faithful leaders in our nation, things will work out.
On the 19th, the team went on site seeing with Barcelona famous city centre of tourism and in the afternoon we tour the beach at the Mediteranian sea. Sport demonstration were carried out at the beach and we also ceased the opportunity to sell some of our DVD sport documentation there.
The 20th, SLASC travelled a six (6) hours by train to a provincial city of Burgos. There we had a very good time also. In fact,
more than Barcelona. The team was hosted in a 5 Star hotel with no idea by all to use many of the electrical and utility facilities available in the rooms, laptop computers, TV, gas cooker, electronic shawers, folding beddings and very good continental breakfast daily.
A Burgos banking company there called, Caja de Burgos, brought us to this community through a friend who had live and work in Sierra Leone at the International Red Cross, Alfie. He is a native of Burgos village, but the community well advance than Freetown. The Bank shall be approving SLASC project of Micro finance business grants of project to begin at the end of year 2010.
Thousands of spectators garthered at the centre square to watch the demonstration amputee football match here in Burgos. The match was desplayed at the Burgos TV alrming huge morale not only to the Caja de Burgos but to an encouraged society even living with disability.
A party was called in the evening of May 21st, where Sierra Leoneans amputees demonstrated our social potentials through dancing includding lot of funs and making more friends abroad. A very beautiful Espanol lady approached star player of the tour here in Burgos and ready to come later to Sierra Leone to finalise their unanimous plans.
