The NawaLife Trust (NLT) strives to improve public health by empowering community members through innovative behavioural change communication. Its NawaSport Programme uses football to educate young people in areas such as HIV/AIDS prevention, care and life skills. Through NawaSport, NLT trains community members to lead formal and informal football teams through 12 training components. NLT operates the programme at 12 different sites and has reached 16,000 individuals.
In 2006, NLT introduced NawaSport training into prisons, as prison inmates are considered to be one of the most HIV-vulnerable populations in Namibia. NawaSport provides them with the knowledge to help them protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases.
