The Fundación Educere was founded in 1997, initially to provide educational opportunities for the most underprivileged youth of Puente Alto, one of the poorest suburbs of the Chilean capital Santiago de Chile. Educere believes that each individual and each community carries within all the power and capacities necessary to make their dreams in life come true.

Main activities range from the integration of at-risk youth into educational programmes, youth leadership training, provision of scholarships, IT skill training, and community libraries. Educere furthermore supports micro-businesses with general consultancy services and seeks to engage Chilean companies into tailor-made CSR strategies that directly meet important needs of Puente Alto. Since 2005, Educere uses football as a means to connect youth to its social programmes. Besides traditional football, Educere is implementing the “Fútbol Callejero” concept in its programme called “Edugol”, as a strategy to involve youth on a continuous basis and empower them to become leaders and role models in their community. Edugol is implemented in three different communities in Puente Alto, targeting the most marginalised youth.
