CARAVANAMANI 2010

In 2004 a group of some 50 people travelled the countries of Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo over a three weeks period on a peace mission. The group called itself "CARAVANAMANI", which means " PEACE TRAVEL", and comprised representatives from an international association of non-governmental organisations, actors, artist, dancers and football players.

Five years later, on 8th March 2009, the Rwandan capital-Kigali with ESPERANCE organisation served as starting point for a new peace Caravanamani designed to travel the Great Lakes Region to end it on 29th March 2009 at Kimisagara Youth Center (KYC) where ESPERANCE has its office. On its way it was going to embed the countries of Burundi, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Caravanamani conveyed a dual mission: it was animating the idea of an African FIFA confederetions Cup 2009TM and FIFA World Cup 2010TM by carrying the South African enthusiasm to these countries. As the same time Caravanamani used football as a tool for peace building and social inclusion in Africa.

After one year the CARAVANAMANI is back with its mission;Caravanamani has started on 17th March 2010 from Berlin to embed the regions of Ostfilden(Germany), Catania, Malta, Cairo, Assuan, Khartoum, Addis-Abeba, Marsabit, Jinja to take the end in Kigali on 30th April 2010. Finaly the group of Caravanamani will take a time to travel from Kigali to South Africa in the World Cup of 2010.

The Caravanamani travel has the mission of animating the idea of FIFA World Cup 2010TM by carrying the South African enthusiasm to these regions and showing the importance of football as a tool to peace building, conflict resolution and social inclusion in the whole world.
