Based in Moreno, one of the most impoverished parts of Greater Buenos Aires, the Club Deportivo y Cultural Bongiovanni has been active since 2004. In an environment where large parts of the population have no access to the formal labour market, the education system, or health services, the Club Bongiovanni seeks to create spaces and meeting places for different members of the community to recover neighbourhood identity and to promote community development. Their most important objective is to empower and educate young people to become active and committed members of the society who can drive sustainable social change and are examples for following generations. I

n their programme, football is used to engage young people in non-formal education and leadership skill trainings. Bongiovanni works with the Fútbol Callejero methodology and since 2008 has been part of the Liga Liga FOS (Football for Social Opportunity League), a local football league of 19 organisations that systematically involves participants in educational activities and capacity building opporunities. “Fútbol Callejero”, a concept used by various organisations within the streetfootballworld network, aims to tap the full potential of football by applying special rules and rituals to the game.
