Gurises Unidos (GGUU) is based and active in Montevideo, Uruguay. It was founded in 1989 with the aim to protect and promote the rights of disadvantaged children and youth in Uruguay. GGUU has evolved into one of Uruguay’s and South America’s most renowned NGOs active in this field, with a broad range of on-going programmes focussing on a variety of different topics, such as child labour, vocational training, street children, gender and civil society.

In 1998, Gurises Unidos started to systematically integrate football as a tool to raise participation levels among those target groups that are especially hard to reach. Since early 2006, GGUU has been maintaining close cooperation and dialogue with Defensores del Chaco, Argentina, in the course of which GGUU has gotten familiar with the concept of “Fútbol Callejero”. Since late 2007, together with streetfootballworld Network Member Mundo Afro, GGUU is developing the National Street Football League in Uruguay. In acknowledgement of this role, as well as its commitment and achievements, GGUU was invited to attend the II Encuentro Sudamericano de Fútbol Callejero in December 2007.
