AMANDLA EduFootball was honoured to host its annual kickoff event of the 11-a-side Football leagues in the prestigious Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. For over 300 children from 27 child and youth care facilities the day offered exciting activities around themes of Fair Play, Teamwork and Life-Skills.

After forming integrated teams of all age groups and genders, Under 12's, Under 15's and Under 19's, the teams set off to run through a set of workshops on and off the pitch. As a team they mastered an obstacle course, navigating blindfolded through different stops each representing important aspects of the AMANDLA Fair Play System, e.g. teamwork, respect, positive conduct. Another work station combined football drills with life-skills covering different facets of team sport such as anger management, working towards one goal and dealing with conflict.

The colourful season opening day laid the foundation for the children and youth to intermingle and extend their friendship circle outside their own facility.
