Stay 'Ahead of the Game' in order to identify cancer earlier!
|
Today Albion in the Community launched their ‘Ahead of the Game’ project in partnership with the Department of Health and the Football Foundation.
One of five innovative pilot projects in England, the aim is to raise awareness of the signs, symptoms, and treatments for lung, bowel and Prostate cancer, in males over 55, in order to find the signs of cancer earlier… these diseases are all threats to men in the UK but early diagnosis and treatment increases the chances of men beating them. The community schemes of Scunthorpe United, Blackburn Rovers FC, Portsmouth FC, and Norwich City, are all also delivering similar 12 month projects. Launched today at the Withdean Stadium, with the assistance of Brighton & Hove Albion FC former professional footballers Charlie Oatway and Danny Cullip, and presented by Dr. Stuart Cairn, Dr. Sarah Hoffman, Dr. Tom Scanlon, & Dr. Matt Fletcher, the programme will use awareness events, outreach work, health checks at games, quizzes and marketing paraphernalia in order to encourage the message that ‘if in doubt, check it out’. Fans will even be offered free tickets to games in exchange for getting their health checked. Stuart Christie, from Albion in the Community, said, "Cancer affects everybody in some way during their lives. Using the brand of Brighton and Hove Albion, and the outreach of the community scheme, we hope to raise the awareness of the signs and symptoms of these three cancers and hope in some way the work we are doing can go towards saving people life's through early diagnosis.” Find out more at: www.ifindoubt.info
