streetfootballworld network members have had success with a range of approaches to fundraising. Below are some suggestions from the streetfootballworld community for raising the funds required to send a delegation to the Football for Hope Festival 2010. While the organisations themselves might not use all the ideas below, you are welcome to try them out!
Events
• Artistic shows, street fairs and other activities (Mundo Afro)
• Football tournaments with teams from businesses and sponsors (Dads Against Drugs)
• Sponsored cycling event (Dads Against Drugs)
• Salsa dance evenings (Dads Against Drugs)
• Barefoot charity football tournaments (Grassroot Soccer – since 2006, Grassroot Soccer has raised nearly $150 000 through its Lose the Shoes tournaments)
• Football tournament in which players pay to play, ideally with an interesting catch such as mixing young people from the organisation with business partners
• Traditional fundraising events such as concerts, lectures, galas, dinners or exhibitions
• Non-football events such as bike rides, mini-Olympics, marathons or triathlons
Corporate and partner involvement
• Engage businesses in sponsoring individuals (Dads Against Drugs)
• Hold a one-day business round table with top company executives to announce the event and solicit partnerships (Search and Groom)
• Approach potential corporate partnerships for support through cash or value in kind (Colombianitos)
• Seek corporate sponsorship (Football United)
• Send a simple e-mail to all partners requesting support (Moving the Goalposts)
• Agree with a local professional club to declare a match day in support of the organisation and raise money in the ground (Football United)
Even more
• Set up a concession stand during football games (Starfinder Foundation)
• Ask each participant to raise a small token amount to encourage a culture of taking responsibility and reducing dependency (Moving the Goalposts)
• Auction photos of a major event (Espérance)
• Establish a permanent link on your website for making donations
• Create accounts on fundraising websites such as betterplace.org or globalgiving.org
