20 Centres for 2010 is the official campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. The goal of the campaign is to raise 10 million USD to fund the construction of 20 Football for Hope Centres across Africa. Five centres will be located in South Africa and 15 across the rest of the continent. Each will feature a mini-pitch with one-star artificial turf along with classrooms and health care facilities, providing young people a place to play and gather as well as access to counselling, health and educational services. The 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Official Campaign marks the first time that the world's largest football event will harness the power of the game itself to inspire positive social change. Following the success of previous campaigns in 2002 ("Say yes for children") and 2006 ("6 villages for 2006"), the 2010 campaign will be conducted within the framework of the Football for Hope movement -- the key element of the strategic alliance between FIFA and streetfootballworld. Investing in excellence The construction of the centres will not only provide long-term infrastructure but also improve the delivery of the unique programmes of the Centre Host organisations. The Football for Hope Centres represent a key contribution to the legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Long after the final whistle is blown, the centres will continue to serve their local communities through sustainable programmes that use the beautiful game to inspire positive social change. Each centre will be designed in close collaboration with the Centre Host in order to ensure that the infrastructure is suitable for the needs of the community and the programmatic aims of the centre. By building relationships with local public health and education service providers, the Centre Host organisations actively seek to link youth to existing opportunities and strengthen networks within the community. The first four Football for Hope Centres will be built until June 2010 and include Cape Town, South Africa (Grassroot Soccer), Bamako, Mali (AMPJF), Nairobi, Kenya (MYSA), Windhoek, Namibia (Special Olympics Namibia). Shortly afterwards, the Football for Hope Centres in Kigali, Rwanda (Espérance) and Cape Coast, Ghana (Play Soccer) will be ready. These first 6 centres will serve as models for the development of the next 14. Stakeholders and supporters The Football for Hope Centres are long-term projects for all the parties involved in their development. The Football for Hope Centre model is based on partnership and cooperation between various stakeholders and the principles of matching resources and complementary expertise. There are many different organisations and institutions committed to support the local organisations in continuing to deliver excellent community services, including streetfootballworld; FIFA; FIFA Partners; national football associations; national, regional and local governments and various investors and foundations. For instance, with support from the Jacobs Foundation streetfootballworld is supporting the local organisations in the area of education through football to deliver their existing programmes and to develop new and innovative solutions to address key challenges in their local communities. streetfootballworld is also providing opportunities for knowledge transfer and facilitating the exchange of good practice experiences with other organisations working in the field of Development through Football. This provides opportunites for the Centre Hosts to select and adapt successful education through football models to their own local contexts. Promoting access to effective programmes through the streetfootballworld network thus enhances the positive impact local organisations have on individuals and entire communities. Document Actions |
