A LABORATORY FOR THE FIELD OF DEVELOPMENT THROUGH FOOTBALL

streetfootballworld Project Development

Project Development is a strategic field of work for streetfootballworld. The central task is the development of new approaches and the elaboration of existing methods in the field of Development through Football. The projects are implemented in partnership with other organisations that are experts in the field and often Members in the streetfootballworld Network.

Knowledge Exchange and Strategic Partnerships
The development and implementation of national and international projects is a response to the demand of governments as well as national and continental football associations for the use of football to address socially relevant issues. The experience gained through the projects flows back into the work of the streetfootballworld Network Member, who is often responsible for the continuation of such projects on local and regional levels.

Football and Education
Currently the Project Development team is addressing the use of football as a tool for learning, both inside and outside of the classroom. In this process, football does not only appear during physical education lessons or in the lunch break. Tasks are defined in school subjects such as Social Studies, Ethics or Mathematics and special Project Days adopt situations from football, thereby providing a direct link with a passion of many schoolchildren, both male and female.

In the project EUROSCHOOLS 2008, the official school project of the UEFA EURO 08™, schools in Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are exploring Europe’s diversity by adopting an ambassadorial role for a European country.

For the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Germany, school children in Germany actively prepared for their role as hosts: in the project World Cup Schools – Fair Play for Fair Life 205 schools each acted as an ambassador for one FIFA country.

Within the framework of the Football and Global Learning scheme, supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the work of selected World Cup Schools is being extended. The contact established between school children to schools and organisations around the world is being deepened. Via international partnerships and joint projects, global learning will become a fascinating and tangible element of the curriculum and beyond.

Expanding on Approaches from the Network
A further focus of streetfootballworld’s Project Development is the exploration of possibilities for cooperative networking it the field of Development through Football. Derived from experiences within the global Network, the cooperation between German organisations that use football in local, social development is being deepened. The German Network for Youth Development through Football, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, is being developed in consultation with the global Network in order to profit from experiences made in other regions and to use synergies from the network’s expansion.
