Project description
:
The mission of Soccer for Peace is to unite children of post-conflict countries through their shared love of football. Its efforts are currently concentrated on Israel, where the organisation has been organising overnight football camps for children from Israeli and Arab backgrounds since 2005. These camps consist of intensive football training in conjunction with intercultural discussions, and educational activities that promote peaceful coexistence. This pilot project gave way to a much larger operation in the following years.
In 2007, Soccer for Peace created a year long after-school programme in addition to the camps, to ensure that the children have close daily contact with one another for an extended period. Its three goals are: to improve participants' quality of play, to improve understanding and acceptance of one another in the course of training together, and to build on the foundation formed by football when engaging in everyday activities.
